OTREC supports innovations in sustainable transportation in its three theme areas: advanced technology, integration of land use and transportation, and healthy communities.
Transportation Electrification Initiative
The transition from a petroleum-based transportation system to one based on electricity will require a coordinated effort between public and private organizations both locally and nationally. The Transportation Electrification Initiative will test promising mobility projects focusing on urban freight, consumer behavior, intelligent vehicle systems and the effect of electrification on the electrical grid in a living laboratory. Sustainable Cities Initiative
This initiative grew out of efforts to connect work on sustainable transportation, livability and urban design with research and education programs that would better serve communities and inform policy. The Sustainable Cities Initiative takes programs such as Sustainable City Year, experts in residence and policy advising to create a long-term model of education, research, and service. Read more »
Oregon Modeling Collaborative
While Oregon is a leader in modeling methods for transportation and land use planning, it lacks the modeling tools needed to address issues such as climate change, land use for sustainable transportation, and pricing strategies. The Oregon Modeling Collaborative will bring together the public and private sectors and academic institutions to meet this need. Read more »
